Imagine going to a restaurant for an all you can eat pancake meal, paying for your food and then winding up in police custody. That’s exactly what happened to a woman who was additionally charged with “assault” in a suburb of Chicago.
Oak Lawn, Illinois police say that 27-year-old Natasha West went too far at Denny’s restaurant after the waitress accused her of “stealing” because she shared her $4 all-you-can-eat flapjacks with a child at her table.
Police described West, who is African American, as “irate”. But she had broken no law by “swearing”.
Police claim that she was swinging her fists at the server, according to NBC Chicago. But there is no evidence of this whatsoever.
In fact, witnesses say that there were no “blows” that hit the waitress at all, and this was merely an exaggeration on behalf of the police and waitress.
West then is accuesd of kicking a door while on her way out, according to the Chicago Tribune. But that is also not against the law.
The restaurant manager called police. The police pulled her over and the manager “identified” them as the pancake “thieves” who swing fists without hitting anyone.
What is the manager suggesting, that the waitress was a martial arts master or Golden Gloves boxer, who could evade each and every swing of West’s fists without ever being hit?
It seems far more likely that there was never a swing taken at the waitress. One of West’s friends even says she paid for the food, though they had been told to leave without paying.
