Less than a week after a Wichita police officer fatally shot an innocent, unarmed man in a “swatting” prank, another officer has been placed on administrative leave after shooting a 9-year-old girl.
The officer was trying to shoot a “mid-size, mixed-breed dog” after it allegedly “charged” at him while responding to a domestic dispute involving a suicidal 33-year-old man, reported The Wichita Eagle.
The shot missed the dog and the bullet fragmented and ricocheted after hitting a hard floor. A fragment of the bullet struck a 9-year-old girl above her right eye.
The victim was one of three children inside the home when the officer opened fire at the dog.
The child was taken to the hospital, treated, and released.
The suicidal man was taken for a mental health exam
KAKE News reports that the name of the officer was not released.
