Texas Deputy Accused of Child Rape Found Dead In His Jail Cell

A Bexar County sheriff’s deputy was found dead in his jail cell from what authorities are calling an apparent suicide.

Jose Nunez, 47, was arrested and jailed for super aggravated sexual assault after repeatedly sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl and threatening her mother with deportation if she reported the abuse, reported ABC 13.

The 10-year sheriff’s department veteran was found dead in his cell at the Karnes Correctional Center, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar.

The sheriff would not reveal any specifics of the death, but said the evidence led investigators to believe it was suicide.

Nunez was jailed in Karnes County to avoid preferential treatment for the former child raping deputy.

At the time of his arrest, ABC 13 reported Nunez may have had other child victims.
