Seminole County Investigators arrested an Oviedo, Florida officer accused of repeatedly molesting a female child family member, starting when she was just 11-years-old.
Officer Joseph Meyer, 42, was arrested and charged with 6 counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child between 12 and 16 years old, and 1 count of molestation of a child under 12, reported WESH.
According to the victim, Meyer would climb into her bed, cuddle with her, and grope her breasts under her shirt.
Oviedo Police Chief Dale Coleman says the accused child molester’s actions do not represent the ethics of the police department.
“I know the public trust is easily lost and I just want people to be rest assured that the Oviedo Police department takes its mission very, very seriously and that we want people to know we don’t condone this at all and that we stand by the full and complete investigation and wherever it leads, we will stand behind.”
Authorities do not believe he had any other victims.
Meyer, a 15-year veteran of the Oviedo Police Department, has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending results of an investigation.
He is being held without bail at the Seminole County Jail, and his arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 25.
