LAPD Officer Charged With 3 Counts Of Murder After DUI Crash

A Los Angeles Police Department officer has been charged with murder of 3 people after being in an off-duty DUI crash in Whittier last year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday

Edgar Verduzco, 27, was arrested after the deadly drunken Sept. 26, 2017 crash, but he was released because police lacked the grounds to file charges.

On Friday, the DA’s office announced Verduzco has been charged with 3 counts of murder and vehicular manslaughter, and 1 count of driving under the influence and driving with a .08% blood alcohol content (which is the legal limit) causing injury. The LAPD announced he has been relieved of duty, reported the Los Angeles Times.

Verduzco was aware of the dangers of driving while drunk, and he even posted a video below about drunk driving to his Instagram account about 3 hours before the crash.

The off-duty officer was allegedly drunk and speeding when he crashed into two vehicles that night. One of the vehicles was pushed into the center divider and burst into flames, killing 3 people inside.

The victims were identified as Mario Davila, 60, Maribel Davila, 52, and their 19-year-old son, Oscar Davila.

The people in the other vehicle survived with only minor injuries.

According to the DA’s office, Verduzco faces life in prison if convicted as charged.
