The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after an officer fatally shot an 84-year-old military veteran Monday in southwest Miami-Dade County.
A spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, Detective Argemis Colome, said 4 officers went on a call for a report of an armed man who was threatening to kill himself about 1 p.m. near Southwest 138th Avenue and Southwest 270th Street, reported ABC affiliate Local 10 News.
An officer then decided to kill the man rather than help him, and the unidentified veteran was pronounced dead at the scene.
A neighbor told Local 10 News that he went outside to look when he heard the commotion.
“Well, I heard about three shots. Bam, bam, bam. It sounded like gunshots, but I don’t know. But then, I saw a whole lot of police,” the man said.
The identities of the officers involved in the shooting have not been released.
