After Escape Attempt, Michigan Woman Who Lied About 4 Black Men Kidnapping and Raping Her Gets Real Prison Time

A woman who was previously sentenced to a year in a residential jail alternative program after creating an elaborate story about 4 black men kidnapping and raping her recently tried to escape. She will not be spending time behind real bars.

In March 2016, Leiha Ann-Sue Artman made up a story about being kidnapped and raped by 4 black men. After being caught in her web of lies, she was sentenced to a year in “fake” jail. That was apparently not enough to convince her to try to get her life together, because now she is facing 13 months to 4 years in real jail for resisting and obstructing police after she tried to escape the custody of jail officers, reported MLive.

Artman concocted the kidnapping story that included her being thrown into the trunk of a car and raped, and her boyfriend even received fake text messages demanding a ransom.

Artman apparently violated the alternative jail’s parole orders, and was taken into custody. But during an October hospital visit under police supervision, Artman tried to escape.

“Ms. Leiha Ann-Sue Artman was transported from the Muskegon County Jail to Hackley Hospital based upon information provided by her indicating that she may have been sexually assaulted prior to arriving at the jail,” Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat explained.

Artman now says her life has “completely spiraled out of control,” and she admits she needs professional help.
